The  Mill Road High School -
Then, with the efforts of Jeff McDowell, Mark Mc Dowell and Sawzall Sculptor Tom O' Connell
( all CHS Grads) , the team rendered the Bison in Styrofoam to make a pattern for casting in metal . . .

We have long had a page featuring the old "Downtown High School".
This page showcases the Mill Road School which made its debut as
the Clearfield Area High School in 1956, with the first graduates being
the Class of 1957.  It currently sits vacant awaiting demolition.

This page is an homage to that school, which served as "CHS" until 1975.

The picture to the right is from the 1954 "Bison" where the caption reads:
" That picture is enough to make anyone smile ",
referring to the architect's rendering of the "new" High School which would open about two years later.
Superintendent S.F.W. Morrison is on the left , talking with three students.

clearfieldreunions.com is fortunate to have come across a rare copy of the November 1956 Dedication Program for the Mill Road
School which we have reproduced here in its entirety. Many thanks to Mary Ann Franson and Fred Redden of the CASD for the use of this piece of CHS history . . . . .

"The Mill Road School" ~
            Clearfield Area High School,  1956-1975

The "new" High School on Mill Road, served until the graduation  of the Class of 1975, after which the present location in Hyde opened.
When this building served as the High School, Bison Football was played on the field in the Driving Park ( Clearfield County Fair
Grounds ) with seating in the Grandstand. This photo is from the 1969 "Bison" yearbook.

The 2013-14 School Year was to be the
final time that the CASD occupied
the Mill Road building. To commemorate
the occasion, the Class of 1975 - the last
class to graduate there - hosted a day long
celebration and a last chance for all
of the former students to take a tour.
And, wow , what great day it was !
Perfect weather and our school looking
as good as it did when new.

Major props to the CASD staff
and the kids of CMS . .

. . and of course to the Class of 1975 for
their "Remember When" Dance.
We have just published
a page similar to this one
focusing on the current
High School in Hyde.
